Where stealing is legal

The Texas A&M baseball team stole more than 150 bases over the course of last year's season. This year, they are capitalizing on this talent in a unique and clever donor drive.

The Stolen Base Challenge asks Aggie fans to pledge a few bucks for each stolen base over the course of the season. You can pledge between $1 and $12 per stolen base, and get appropriate levels of baseball loot for your commitment...baseball polo shirt, highlight video, autographed wall poster, dinner with the coach, etc. At the end of the season, the athletic (12th Man) foundation will invoice you for your total pledge, with the proceeds going to the baseball capital account for team needs and development.

It is a particularly clever way to raise money and get donations because $12 per stolen base doesn't sound like that much money...right? But if the team makes it to their 2007 season average of 150 stolen bases, you owe the school $1800. Ouch. I nearly signed up til I did the math.

Still, kudos for creativity! And Gig 'Em, Aggies!
